The Best of Germany and the Passion Play in Oberammergau

Trip Details DAY 1: DEPART USA Board your overnight flight. DAY 2: ARRIVE FRANKFURT – MAINZ On arrival at Frankfurt Airport, take your airport shuttle service for the tour hotel. As night falls, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Drink. DAY3: MAINZ – ROTHENBURG Start with an orientation tour of Frankfurt to see Romerberg Square, the cathedral and the house where Goethe was born. Continue to Heidelberg and climb up to the castle for views over the old quarter. Now on to medieval Rothenburg, the most well-preserved town on the Romantic Road. Walk through narrow cobbled streets to the market square dominated by its Renaissance Town Hall. Tonight, enjoy traditional German fayre at your Highlight Dinner. (BB,HD) DAY 4: ROTHENBURG – OBERAMMERGAU Follow the Romantic Road south to Munich. Your orientation tour shows you the Olympic Stadium, Victory Arch and Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz. Continue to Oberammergau. (BB,D) DAY 5: OBERAMMERGAU You have the best seats in the house for the Passion Play. (BB,L,D) DAY 6: OBERAMMERGAU – DRESDEN. Drive north to Nuremberg, still entirely enclosed by its fortifications. In the Old Town see the charming blend of stone and timbered dwellings and the massive ramparts with its 46 towers. Continue to the 'Florence of the Elbe', Dresden. (BB) DAY 7: DRESDEN – BERLIN Join a local guide to see the splendors of the city. From the Frauenkirche, which has risen again from the destruction of WWII, walk past 'The Procession of the Dukes', a mosaic of colossal proportions on the Royal Palace façade. See the cathedral, the Semper Opera House and Zwinger Palace, before departing for the capital of Berlin. (BB) DAY 8: BERLIN SIGHTSEEING A guided sightseeing tour takes you along the Unter den Linden past the Humboldt University and Opera. Stop on Museum Island before passing the Brandenburg Gate. See the glass-domed Reichstag building and drive through the Tiergarten. Spend the afternoon at leisure. (BB) DAY 9: RETURN TO USA (BB)
