Superbowl Sunday - normal Mass schedule On Sunday, Feb 5th after the 10:30 am Mass, we will host a welcome for all new folks, families and households who have registered in the parish. And even if you are not so new, if you would like an opportunity to meet the friars, heads of ministry, hear a little about the history of the parish, or all the many activities and opportunities in the parish – make plans to be present. We will gather in the St Francis parish hall at the conclusion of the 10:30 am Mass (approx 11:45 am) . Come and bring a friend!
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace." 1 Peter 4:10 During 2012 the parish will explore several new modalities of giving using electronics means. Our Pay Pal account is almost ready to go. We are exploring an iPhone and Droid app – even considering an iPad based swipe system. But in the meantime….. Have you considered using our already-in-place OnLine Giving system? 140 parish families use the system and seem very happy with the way it works. Want to know more? See http://www.sacredheartfla.org/resources/Online_Giving.shtml One good reason to use OnLine Giving? Have you ever wondered how much it costs to provide parish envelopes? About $9,000 per year. Save a tree! and our expenses!
The Lenten season (which begins Feb 22nd!!) is a time when we naturally desire to do something more for our spiritual life and growth. The parish is considering a Franciscan Lenten program called: Lent 4.5: Christian Simplicity. Not only does the program encourage participants to practice the traditional Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to protect God’s creation, bring forth a just society, and nurture a fulfilling spiritual life. It offers practical opportunities for people of faith to apply the values of Gospel simplicity to their everyday lives. Come to pray and learn about ways to protect God’s creation, embrace Gospel justice, and nurture their own spirituality. Lent 4.5–Christian Simplicity is a seven-week faith formation program. The program needs three things: (1) hosts who will offer hospitality of a gathering place in their home or here in the parish center, (2) an individual or team who will lead each gathering through the parish-provided materials; and (3) you to attend the Lenten program. For more information see www.earthandspiritcenter.org/lent45/ . If you are willing to host/lead/participate in a small faith group this Lent, please contact Fr. George.
The Sacred Heart Young Adults Annual Retreat will be March 2-4, 2012 at the Franciscan Center in Tampa. It is a great weekend of spirituality, faith sharing, sacraments and fun. Registration forms can be found on the parish web site, parish calendar or via the group’s page. Hope to see you there! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SHYATampa
On February 1st (Wednesday 9 am) there will be an Open House at our parish school. All parishioners are welcomed – in fact encouraged to come and see our parish school. Too long our school has been the “best kept secret” in Tampa. There is no better means for us to make known the quality Catholic education that we provide that focuses on developing the whole person – spiritually and morally – challenging each student to reach his or her full potential. Come and see! Whether you have school age children or not – come and see. And then spread the good news about our parish school. The principal, Mr. Hitchcock, the teachers, staff, and students are the living embodiment of what quality Catholic education can achieve. Come to the Open House and bring a neighbor, a relative and your friends. Come and see!

Did your efforts to become serious about God’s Word get lost somewhere in the genealogies of the Book of Genesis? Well, it is time to dust it off and join your fellow parishioners every Tuesday evening in the Parish Hall at 7 pm. By following the Sunday readings (Old Testament, New Testament and Gospels) you will discover a wonderful way to learn God’s plan of salvation for all people – and God’s plan for you!
