- Study the readings and practice them out loud during the week before you are scheduled to lector
- Use the workbook the church gives you to study the meaning and pronunciation
- Pray over the readings
- Find ways to share your faith and grow with others
- Be aware that you are the vehicle for God’s Word to enter our hearts. Allow the Holy Spirit to move through you!
- Speak in a louder tone than your normal speaking voice. Project your voice.
- Know your reading well enough to look out into the assembly
- Use the microphone to your advantage—it must be placed in front of your mouth. Know that you must project your voice; the mike cannot do that for you.
- Speak with clarity; use vocal inflection to bring out the meaning of the reading.
- Take your time!
- Show up when you are scheduled to lector—15 minutes before the mass.
- Find a substitute when you have a scheduling conflict.
- Always be prepared to proclaim both readings, just in case.
- In case of unexpected emergency, alert the other lector, lector coordinator, or director of liturgy.
- Plan to attend a Continuing Formation & Training Session at least once a year (in addition to your first training session).
- Participate in the Mass by joining singing and responses with congregation.
- Please be willing to lector at more than one mass time. Be willing especially to serve at least a few times per year at the 7:30 am Sunday mass.
- Please be flexible when procedures change, or when the unexpected happens.
Most of our communications about lectoring will be posted on the "Google Groups for Lectors" or sent via email. Please check your email regularly for news and new postings. If you do not have email, please let the lector coordinator know so you can be placed on a special alert list.
