May He Rest In Peace

Father Michael Kennelly, S.J., passed away this past week. Fr. Kennelly, a Jesuit for 75 years, was pastor here at Sacred Heart from 1982 to 1990. He was loved by many parishioners and others who knew him as Pastor and when they encountered him as he officiated at their weddings, baptisms and funerals during and long after his service as our Pastor. Father Kennelly was instrumental in raising funds for the purchase of the land and construction of the new campus of Jesuit High school when it was moved from its location next to Sacred Heart to its present location on Himes Ave., due to increasing enrollment. Father Kennelly served as President of the school from 1953-1959, and as Rector from 1991-1997. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living Jesuit in the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Jesuit High School on Thursday, January 13th at 6:00PM in the St. Anthony Chapel. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jesuit High School.
