Please call Marcelle Dunbar at 229-1595, ext. 220 between 8:30am-4pm, Monday –Friday.
There are two answers to this question…
- If you are a registered member of the parish we ask that you call us at least nine months prior to your anticipated wedding date.
- If you are a member of another parish there are several things you need to do: (1) Your parish must provide a letter giving permission for you to marry at Sacred Heart. (2) You are asked to supply a priest or deacon from your parish to prepare you for marriage and to celebrate the wedding. (3) Once we receive the commitment from your parish, a date can be set. We also ask that you call us at least nine months prior to your anticipated wedding date.
- Please realize that you can call prior to nine months as most couples do when planning their wedding ceremonies a year or more in advance.
We would encourage you to register and worship at the Catholic parish located near your place of residence so that you will become active and involved in the life and ministry of the parish. Our parish area is the central and northern downtown Tampa neighborhoods, Davis Island, Harbor Island, and parts of Hyde Park.
If you are drawn to worshiping with our community and have a desire to be active and a part of our faith and ministry community, you are welcome to register with us. However, if you are not resident in the parish area, we ask that you be registered and active at Sacred Heart for six months before contacting us about a desired wedding date.
With the date for your wedding set and confirmed... (more)
Yes we do! See our Pre-Cana schedule and contact information.
Perhaps a better way to answer the question is to recommend that you finish the preparation process 30-45 days before the wedding date. Then you can decide to start based on other things in your life, e.g., business travel, holidays, academic semesters, and other important events in your life. In any case, the Diocese requires that preparation begin no less than 6 months prior to the date of the wedding.
Parish members may celebrate their weddings at the normally scheduled weddings time of Saturdays at 11am, 2:30pm or 7:30pm. People frequently ask if Catholics who are not parishioners are able to celebrate their wedding here at Sacred Heart. Yes, they can; however, the available wedding times are limited to 11 am or 7:30 pm.
The fees for parishioners is $800 This fee includes an hour rehearsal the previous evening, and a three hour block of time on your wedding day. It also includes a coordinator who will be present at the rehearsal and during your wedding.
The fee for non-parishioners is $1,500. Naturally people will ask why the difference. Sacred Heart Church is a beautiful and beautifully maintained place of worship. The cost of maintenance, renovation, restoration for the facility and the artwork is considerable. During 2009 a major renovation occurred - which is phase 2 of the renovations that began with the restoration of the stained glassed windows throughout the church and restoration of artwork in the altar area. Our parishioners routinely contribute to the operation of the parish as well as the substantive cost of the renovation work. Simply put, it is the beauty of the Church that is often the motivation for folks from other parishes to celebrate their marriage here. The additional costs is so that Sacred Heart can continue to be available to parishioners and other Catholics alike for the celebration of their wedding nuptials now and in the years to come.
Yes, as mentioned above we provide a coordinator to assist at the rehearsal and the ceremony. The coordinator works to help direct and facilitate the little details of your celebration, e.g. to work with your florists, photographers, videographers, etc. once they arrive at the church; to help with the "do's and don'ts"; and let you enjoy the celebration without worring about processions, seating or other details of the wedding day. Our coordinators have worked with most Tampa-area wedding professionals (florist, photographers, videographers, planners, etc).
Yes, our Director and Assistant Director of Music are both accomplished organists and vocalists. In addition several other musicians from local Catholic parishes also assist us from time to time. We schedule one of them to provide musical and vocal accompaniment for your wedding. The fee for musical and cantor accompaniment is $250; this is in addition to the above wedding fees.
Occasionally the question arises regarding additional musical or vocal accompaniment such as another cantor or string quartet. We have worked with many of the music professionals here in the Tampa Bay area and can make opportunities to have them participate in the celebration.
The majority of wedding parties takes advantage of free street parking in downtown Tampa on weekends. Often times wedding parties "rent" city parking meters in front of the church and on Twigg Street (more...). For additional information, please contact the Parking Division administrative offices at 813-274-8445.
The parking lot across the street from the main entrance of the church is a private lot and not part of the church. So, during rehearsals and the wedding event, your guests will need to pay the advertised rate. Barring downtown events (e.g. Gasparilla Art Festival, etc.) the lot usually has plenty of parking available at the advertised rate. Some wedding parties have made their own arrangements with "717 Parking" to rent the entire lot for their wedding. "717 Parking" can be contacted at 228-7722.
