    Does your parish have Sunday School or CCD classes?
    Yes, Sacred Heart Catholic Community has an active program for the development and deepening of our children’s faith. We offer an on-going programs for children as part of life-long faith formation. This is the Children and Youth Faith Formation Program (also called CFF or CCD) for ages PreK-4 through 8th grade. In addition, there are Sacramental Preparation programs for children preparing for their first reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist (Holy Communion) – as well as for youths preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  All our programs invite parents into a partnership with the parish in the faith foramtion of their children.

    CFF (CCD) Classes

    Do you have to be a member of the parish to participate in the program?
    Yes, we ask that all participants of the program register as parishioners here at Sacred Heart so that they become part of our on-going religious formation program and our parish community.

    When do Children's Faith Formation (CFF) classes begin and are they every weekend?
    Sunday Classes for ages PreK-4 through 8th grade begin September 9, 2012 with an Open House for parents and children/youth. The 2012-2013 schedule of classes is posted on our parish web-based Calendar.  Classes will run through June 2, 2013. During the 2012-2013 season the Children and Youth Faith Formation classes will meet most Sunday mornings –however, due to national and school holidays there are exceptions

    *In lieu of class on April 14th, Sunday morning Catechists, Children and Parents will  attend the 12:00noon Sacrament of Confirmation Mass, celebrating with our Confirmandi, families and community this sacred celebration of the sealing of the Holy Spirit upon our youth as they participate in one of our Seven Sacraments of the Church.

    What time is your Sunday Children and Youth Faith Formation Program
    (CFF Class)?

    Sunday classes for ages PreK-4 through 8th grade begin promptly at 10:30am – conveniently scheduled after the parish’s 9:00am Sunday Mass. Classes end at 11:30am.  All children are dropped off at and picked up from their classroom. 

    Where are the Children and Youth Sunday Faith Formation classes held?
    The classes are held at Sacred Heart Academy located just north of the parish church at 3515 N. Florida Ave.

    When is Children and Youth Faith Formation registration?
    Registration forms can be filled out online, printed and submitted with appropriate fees either via USPS, hand delivered to the parish office.  When filling out the registration form please include the name of the EC, Elementary, Middle school your child attends.  Registrations received after September 5, 2012 will be considered late and will be assessed a $25.00 late fee.  Please contact Linda Waggoner at the parish office (x204).

    My child was in CFF (CCD) at another parish. Can they join your program?
    Yes – if the child(ren) are joining mid-year, our director of Children’s Faith Formation will consult with the parents to best place the child.

    Are there costs for the program?
    Yes, in order to defray the costs of materials, the parish has established the following costs per child for Children and Youth Faith Formation for children PreK-4 through 8th grade: $50/per child.

    Sacramental Preparation:

    When does Sacrament Preparation begin?
    The parish has programs for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. Please see the individual section for program specific information. Enrollment Meetings will be held in September, for parents only.  Parents need to attend one of these meetings, at which details for the upcoming year of preparation and celebration will be discussed.  You can also see this information on the parish calendar or contact Linda Waggoner at the parish office (x204) for more information.

    When is registration for all the Sacramental Preparation programs?
    Registration for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation can be done early via on-line Registration forms that can be filled out online, printed and submitted with appropriate fees either via USPS, hand delivered to the parish office.
    When filling out the registration form please include the name of the Elementary, Middle or High School your child attends.

    My child is already enrolled in the Children's Faith Formation (CFF) program. Do they have to particpate in the Sacramental Preparation program in order to receive one of the sacraments this year?
    Yes - the Sacramental preparation program is a freestanding parish program and is in addition to the on-going faith formation program.

    My child attends a Catholic School (e.g. Villa Madonna, Academy of the Holy Names).  Do they have to particpate in the Sacramental Preparation program in order to receive one of the sacraments this year?
    Yes. While your child is receiving on-going religious formation at your school, the Sacramental Preparation program is a freestanding parish program and is in addition to the formation they receive at their school.  A letter from the parish school your child is attending should be obtained and included with the registration paperwork.

    What are the requirements to participate in the Sacramental preparation program here at Sacred Heart?
    • All children must be baptized in the Catholic Church and be a member of a registered family of Sacred Heart.
    • All children must be currently enrolled and active in either the Children's Faith Formation (CFF) program or in one the area Catholic schools.
    • All children must have been enrolled in and have regularly attended a Children's Faith Formation (CFF) program, or have attended a Catholic school last year - in other words, there is continuity in the religious formation from last year.
    • Parents must attend one of the two September enrollment meetings and all children and youth must faithfully attend all the program sessions.

    My child was in sacramental preparation at another parish. Can they join your program?
    Yes – if the child(ren) is joining mid-year, our director of Children’s Faith Formation will consult with the parents in order to best place the child.  A letter from the parish where the child was attending should be obtained and included with registration paperwork.

         First Reconciliation/Eucharist - $50 per child
         Confirmation - $50 per child

    My child has not yet been baptized – what should we do?
    If your child is less than 7 years old, please contact Marcelle Dunbar at the parish office (x220). If your child is 7 years or older, we will work with you to find the best pathway that leads your child to the sacrament of Baptism – and the other sacraments. Clearly, it will depend on the age of the child. In this case please contact Linda Waggoner at the parish office (x204).

    The First Reconciliation program

    The process of preparing the children for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation begins with a celebration along with our parish community.  This Rite of Enrollment for First Reconciliation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the 9:00am Mass.  A copy of the child's Baptismal Certificate must be on file in the Faith Formation Office prior to the child's participation in the Rite of Enrollment.

    Sessions preparing children for their First Reconciliation include three evening sessions and a Saturday retreat.  As the first educators of the faith of their children, parents are strongly encouraged and welcomed to actively participate in the preparation process.  The schedule of sessions is posted on the web-based parish calendar.

    Rehearsal for the celebration of the Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be held on Monday January 14, 2013 at 4:30pm at Sacred Heart Church. Only those children with reading roles need to attend the rehearsal.

    The celebration of the Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be held on Wednesday January16, 2013 at 7:00pm at Sacred Heart Church.

    The First Eucharist program

    The process of preparing children for the Sacrament of First Eucharist begins with a celebration amongst our parish community.  A copy of the child's Baptismal Certificate must be on file in the Faith Formation Office prior to the child's participation in the Rite of Enrollment.
     
    Sessions preparing the children for their First Eucharist include three evening sessions and a Saturday retreat. As the first educators of the faith of their children, parents are strongly encouraged and welcomed to actively participate in the preparation process. The schedule of sessions is posted on the web-based parish calendar.

    Rehearsal for the celebration of the Sacrament of First Eucharist will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 7:00pm at Sacred Heart Church.

    The Celebration of the Sacrament of First Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church.  If necessary, there will also be regular Sunday Masses when a child or children may make their First Communion. These dates and times can be discussed with our director of Children’s Faith Formation.

    The Confirmation program

    The process of preparing youth and their sponsors for Confirmation begins with a celebration amongst our parish community. There will be a Rite of Enrollment for Confirmation on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the 6:00pm Mass.  A copy of the candidate's Baptismal Certificate must be on file in the Faith Formation Office prior to the youth's participation in the Rite of Enrollment.

    Sessions preparing youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation includes seven evening sessions, two group service projects, and a retreat.  As the first educators of the faith of their children, parents are strongly encouraged and welcomed to actively participate in the preparation process, as are the candidates' sponsors. The schedule of sessions is posted on the web-based parish calendar.

    Each Confirmation candidate will select a Sponsor. The sponsor must be at least 16 years of age and be a baptized, confirmed, practicing Catholic who has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist.  He or she must lead a life in harmony with the Faith and not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared.
    The Sponsor cannot be the father or the mother of the Confirmation candidate.   It is best to chose a Sponsor who can be present during the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation and active in the faith life of the candidate. Sponsor Forms must be turned in to the Faith Formation Office by February 2, 2013.

    Rehearsal for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church. The Sponsor is strongly encouraged to attend both the Retreat and the Rehearsal. 

    The Celebration of Confirmation is scheduled to be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the 12:00 noon Mass. (Date is determined according to our Bishop's calendar.) The Sponsor or a proxy for the Sponosor must attend the celebration with the candidate.

    Children's Liturgy of The Word

    Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is held three out of four Sunday's of the month at the 9:00am Mass and is for children ages 5 through 5th grade.  No registration is necessary.  During the Mass children and catechists are dismissed to the St. Clare Room to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, as geared toward children, and rejoin the congregation during the offetory.  All children ages 5 to 5th grade are invited to participate.  For more information, please contact Linda Waggoner at the parish office (x204).
