On-line Scripture Resource Descriptions
This link is to St Louis University's Center for Liturgy. As a group, we have found this site to be reliable, insightful and helpful week-in-and-week-out. The initial web page includes a drop down box that allows you to select one of the upcoming Sundays and Solemnities. Once you have selected one of the Sundays you are offered five areas concerning the upcoming Sunday. As regards Bible Study, the two most helpful areas are: "Get to know the Readings" and "Spirituality for Sunday."

Each Sunday, the "Getting to know the Readings" page has six sections:

  • Study of the Readings *
  • The Word Embodied *
  • Historical Cultural Context
  • Thoughts from the Early Church
  • Preparing for Sunday *
  • The Scriptures in Depth
                        * Bible study participants have found
                           these the most helpful

As well, every Sunday, the "Spirituality for Sunday" page has six sections - of which the following are often helpful for reflecting upon the Scriptures:

  • Spirituality of the Readings
  • In Exile
  • The Perspective of Justice

Crossmark Christian Resources
This link is to Brain Stoffregen's study notes on the readings from his Lutheran Revised Common Lectionary. Once you reach the linked page, if you will scroll down just a bit you will find his study notes by Gospel. Brian's work is very readable and generally gives you a lot of food for thought. As a Lutheran he will sometimes place a different accent on the reading from that which a Catholic minister might, but for the large part, his work is solidly Christian and well worth considering.
