The Sacred Heart Church Pastoral Council has the responsibility of creating and nurturing a vision for our parish. This vision’s purpose is to identify ministerial needs, developing the means to respond to these needs, planning for the future of the parish and working to transform the lives of all parishioners into the Body of Christ.
The Pastoral Council is pastoral. It attempts to provide resources and the means to serve the people of the parish as they engage in the mission of the church.
The Pastoral Council is representative. It is a representative body that endeavors to listen and then express concerns and ideas so that needs and challenges are met.
The Pastoral Council is enabling. It endeavors to foster the spiritual growth of individual Catholics of the parish and the broader community; it challenges the parish to grow in response to the Gospel.
The Pastoral Council is collaborative. It challenges its members, committees, organizations and all in the parish to work together. It also seeks ways to collaborate with community organizations and other parishes and congregations.
Membership consists of the chairperson of each parish committee or organizations or a representative selected by that group. There may also be “at large” members named by the Pastor. Ordinarily, a person may serve three years, depending on the committee or organization where they are a member. The Committees and organizations of the parish that have representatives on the Pastoral Council are: Finance, Liturgy, Building and Grounds, Stewardship, Justice and Peace, RCIA, Small Faith Communities, Young Single Adults, Women’s Guild, St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, Planning, University of Tampa, Friends of Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart Academy.
