Dear Sacred Heart Parishioner:
As you are hopefully aware, the Sacred Heart Capital Campaign
"The Heritage of the Heart" is entering into a second phase.
The Parish has completed a very successful first phase under the leadership
of Dr. John Ruckdeschel and with the participation and assistance of many of you.
The goal of the first phase was $2.5 million and the Parish raised approximately
$2.8 million. We have begun to expend these funds, as the scaffolding
in the church indicates. The restoration work has been delayed primarily
due to unexpected difficulties related to the presence of asbestos
in the materials surrounding the windows and the accelerated deterioration
of parts of the exterior. We believe that we now have a reasonable understanding
of the difficulties and we feel comfortable about moving forward with the restoration.
We are now launching the second phase of the capital campaign with the goal
of raising an additional $5.0 million. We expect the proceeds to be used as follows:
$1.5 million for physical repairs, restorations and enhancements to the church;
$612,000 for the Bishop's campaign;
$388,000 for new or enhanced Parish service programs and
$2.5 million for our endowment fund to support both Sacred Heart
Church and Sacred Heart Academy. Among the enhancements to the church
that we expect to accomplish if we reach our campaign goal of $5.0 million
will be the establishment of an on-site nursery/child care center for use
during mass and Sunday CCD facilities.
You have always responded when called to support the needs of your parish.
Over the past 15 years, we have successfully completed campaigns
to repair the organ, build the rectory, repair the pews, and many other projects.
Please take the time to review the campaign information which details
memorial opportunities and other campaign activities.
We also request that you complete the pledge card and return
it in the enclosed envelope. We are blessed with one of the true
treasures of Tampa and the opportunity to preserve it for generations to come.
We believe that with this campaign it will be possible to preserve our historic
building and thereby do our part to pass on our magnificent church to future
generations as well as to further the temporal good works of our Parish,
the Diocese and the Church in general.
We thank you for your support and service to the Lord's works.
Maureen and Dave Dunkel
