  • History
Sacred Heart Academy was founded in 1931 by Reverend Theodore A. Ray, S.J. as the

parochial school for the then Jesuit Sacred Heart Parish.  From 1931 to 1974 the school

was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary educating coed

students from kindergarten though eighth grades and girls only in high school.

The School Sisters of Notre Dame joined the faculty when Our Lady of Perpetual Help

School merged with Sacred Heart Academy in August 1974.  Although the girls high

school closed in 1974 the School Sisters of Notre Dame continued to teach students

in elementary and middle school from 1974 to 1986.

Today the Franscican parish continues Sacred Heart's long tradition of educational

excellence teaching students in Early Childhood programs through eighth

grade. The faculty and staff are secular positions with only the middle school

religion classes being taught by the Franciscan Friars.

    Philosophy
Sacred Heart Academy is a Catholic school that embraces the values of our Franciscan Parish. Christian formation is at the heart of our Catholic education.

We value excellence in Catholic education and strive to develop the individual gifts and talents God has given our students. We use our students’ strengths, approaching them through a variety of instructional strategies and challenging them to demonstrate their full potential and individuality. Our techniques and integrated curriculum accommodate our students’ diverse learning styles.

Service is vital to our Franciscan beliefs; therefore, we engage in a variety of service projects globally and in our own community. Our goal for education is for the SHA graduates to depart as responsible individuals who take with them their Catholic spirituality and values
