  • SHA Academic Curriculum

At Sacred Heart Academy, our age-appropriate curriculum challenges students from Early Childhood (3- and 4-year-olds) through Grade 8. We pride ourselves in providing a sound fundamental curriculum with a variety of “special” subjects ranging from Spanish to computer to the arts. As a Catholic school, the curriculum revolves around our program of Christian Formation through which we focus on doctrine, values and attitudes. The objectives in our religious studies program are to grow and graduate students who will continue to build upon this faith foundation throughout their lives. Of significant help in meeting these objectives is the fact that a Franciscan Friar teaches Middle School Religion.

In addition to Christian Formation, our core subjects include:
         • Language Arts
Primary Grades: Reading (accelerated reader), Phonics, Grammar, Spelling,
                  Creative Writing and Handwriting.
► Middle School: Literature, Creative Writing, Grammar, Spelling and Vocabulary.
         • Mathematics
         • Science
         • Social Studies

    Special subjects include:
         • Physical Education & Health
         • Performing Arts
         • Art
         • Library Skills
         • Spanish
         • Computer (integrated into all subject areas)

Our computer lab is equipped with 23 Internet-accessible networked computers, each with a flat screen monitor. All classrooms and our library are also equipped with Internet- accessible computers to facilitate the integration of technology into the curriculum.

Our students’ success in reaching their learning potential is dependent upon the efforts they are willing to expend and the partnership of parents and teachers to guide them on their way. Perhaps, their greatest goal at this stage of their education should be to “learn to love to learn”. With that achievement will flow a lifetime of accomplishments, regardless of their field of endeavor.
