    Homework and Studying

The purpose of homework assignments is to:
    • Reinforce by study, drill and practice the material learned in school.
    • Deepen knowledge of a subject by long-range reading, projects and research.
    • Develop initiative, independent thinking and responsibility for completing school assignments.

Sacred Heart Academy has a policy of assigning homework daily to students in grades K – 8 according to teacher discretion. Homework assignments will be posted on the Website. Although students will vary in the amount of time taken to complete assignments, the daily time expected of the average student is as follows:

    • Kindergarten:
    • 15 – 20 minutes
    • Grades 1 – 2:
    • 30 minutes
    • Grades 3, 4, 5:
    • 45 – 60 minutes
    • Grades 6, 7, 8:
    • 1 – 2 hours

Parents are expected to cooperate with teachers in supervising home assignments and in providing an environment conducive to study. Students are expected to complete the assigned tasks satisfactorily at home and to turn them in on time. This includes class assignments and homework, both written and study. Unless assigned as a group project, homework should be the work of each individual student, so the sharing/copying of answers or work is considered cheating and students will be held to that standard. The responsibility for homework rests with the student. Parents are encouraged to foster that responsibility within their children. Late work will be accepted at the teacher’s discretion.
