American History is studying the Civil War. We are watching parts of Ken Burns' documentary on the Civil War and researching Civil War historical sites for a project.

In English class both the 7th and 8th grades are writing a "This I Believe" essay. This essay is giving them a chance to share an important belief that they have come to. Everyone has something different to say based on their own experiences and ideas. The variety if amazing!

Half of the class is in Pre-Algebra with 7th grade and the other half is taking Algebra. Currently, the Pre-Algebra class is working on percents and proportions. We will use this to go shopping in a favorite store and figure out sales tax, discounts, markups, and commission. The Algebra class is working on solving systems of equations and inequalities through various methods. So far they have covered half of a high school level math textbook and are working very hard on getting through the remaining chapters. In Science, we are wrapping up our chemistry semester with acids, bases, and solutions. We will do a few labs exploring these concepts before we begin our units on physics.

8th grade will also be working on Finance Park throughout February and making a field trip to the Gus Stavros Institute in Pinellas County in March to implement what they learn. This is a great experience for the students to understand how the real world functions as each student is given a life situation and must learn to create/live by a real life budget with actual values.

All middle school students will also be working on Science Fair throughout January and February.

NOTE: Virtual Classrooms are 'evergreen' expect frequent updates with additional information!
